Auditions open January 3rd - June 1st.  $25 Audition Fee.  Please fill out a registration form below and send it with your application.

Sarasota Cuban Ballet School Summer Intensive 

 

Choreographer: Marius Petipa Composer: Ludwig Minkus Premiere: Bolshoi Theatre in St Petersburg in 1877 This is Sarasota Cuban Ballet School performing at their summer intensive gala in 2015 at the Sarasota Opera House.

The Summer Intensive faculty will be made up of the award winning SCBS teachers: Ariel Serrano, Wilmian Hernandez, Delia Bellart Arcia, Tania Vergara & Emilio Borjas, as well as world renowned guest faculty:

Ramona de Saa - Director of the National Cuban School of Ballet
Ana Julia Bermudez - Master Teacher at the National Cuban Ballet School
Roberto Machado - Coordinator of Classical Ballet  Studies at the Escuela Superior de Musica in Monterey Mexico
Tania Vergara - Master Ballet teacher of Cuba

The Summer Intensive Showcase  and Gala is open to all six week intensive students and it is the culmination of our Summer Intensive Session. This gives an opportunity for families to see what the students have learned in the 6 weeks of training.

The Students that participate in the 6 week program will also participate in our Showcase. The Artistic Director of SCBS and the summer intensive faculty will make a decision on casting the show during the fourth week of the intensive. The cast list will be posted in the bulletin board outside of the blue studio. We believe in equal opportunities so everyone is considered! 

As part of our Cultural Exchange we will also have students from the National Cuban Ballet School joining us for 6 weeks. The students will range in ages from 12 years up. They will be taking classes with our students and are our special guest in the Gala at the Sarasota Opera House on July 29, 2017. This Gala will help us raise funds for scholarships for next years summer intensive and to showcase all the outstanding young talent that exists around the world and converges in Sarasota for 6 weeks.

 

Tuition Schedule

· 6 weeks $1,800.00 (Intermediate and Advance)

· 6 weeks $1,400.00 (Beginners)

· 3 weeks $1,050.00 (All Levels)

· Registration fee $200.00

 

Room and Board

6 week program is $3000.00.**

      3 weeks is $1700.00**

 Accommodation is available for our out of town guests.  Our meal plan is from Monday through Saturday and includes all meals. All students will have to provide their own meals on Sundays. Each apartment has a full size kitchen that will be share by the students.  A planned Sunday activity schedule will be provided in the registration packet which will indicate price and times of the activities. You will be able to choose which activities your student would like to participate in and add them on to the registration form. Some of the activities may include the following: A trip to the beach, Museum visits, a day cruise or a trip to the mall.

A non-refundable tuition deposit of $450.00 must be made no later than two weeks after receiving an acceptance letter and a non-refundable room and board deposit of $750.00 must be made no later than April 25, 2017.

The total tuition, room and board must be paid no later than May 30, 2017


SUMMER INTENSIVE GUEST FACULTY

RAMONA DE SAA - Director of the National Cuban School of Ballet

Outstanding maître of the Ballet, one of the most remarkable figures in the Pedagogy of the Dance in the contemporary world, creator of the current education system of the Classic Dance of the Republic of Cuba.Professor of the National School of Ballet, enclosed professor of the Superior Institute of Art, founder, under the direction of Fernando Alonso of the School of Ballet of the National School of Art (1962), and in 1965 she became the Directress of this institution.

Dancer and founder of the National Ballet of Cuba, she gave her art in important theatres in Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Chile, Ecuador, United States, Hungary, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Soviet Union, Uruguay and Venezuela.She has been the teacher of several important figures of the National Ballet of Cuba, among others, the first dancers Amparo Brito, Rosario Suárez, Lorna Feijóo, Alihaydée Carreño and Carlos Junior Acosta.

In October of 2000, the Superior Institute of Art of the Republic of Cuba gave her the Doctor’s title Honoris Causa in Art.

ROBERT MACHADO - Director of Escuela Superior de Música y Danza Monterrey

Graduated in 1983 and danced in Ballet de Camaguey under the direction of Fernando Alonso. He participates in tours and international festivals throughout Europe, Asia and Latin America. He participated in many festivals and received awards including Best Partner and Gold Medal in the Soloist Category. In 1993 Machado enters Ballet de Monterrey and dances along some amazing artists including Fernando Bujones and working in productions by Cynthia Gregory, Kevin Mackenzie, and Melissa Hayden among others. In 1995 he gets accepted to the Joffrey Ballet Chicago under the direction of Gerald Alpino. He has been a Ballet Mater for the Ballet of Monterrey and Opera Prima (a ballet reality show in Mexico D.F.). Machado has also been selected throughout the years as part of jury panels and adviser in international ballet competitions. In 2013 he was invited by the Escuela Nacional de Ballet de la Habana to teach in their International Workshops for Ballet Schools. In 2014 he was once invited to the International Workshops and Competitions but this time also as a member of the Jury Panel.

ANA JULIA BERMUDEZ - Master Teacher at the National Cuban Ballet School

As a young girl Ana Julia was always outstanding in ballet technique. She was awarded the best interpretation of Blue Bird variation in the IV Ballet school Festival and awarded best technique at the V Dance and Ballet school Festival. In 1984 she graduates from ISA with a Ballet Specialty with a golden title. After graduating she joins the Ballet de Camagüey and tours around Europe and Mexico. In 1986 she starts as a Ballet technique and Character teacher at the Elementary level. In 1991 she starts teaching at the National Ballet School and continues to be an adjunct professor for ISA in Ballet Methodology. She works from 97 to 99 at Academia de Ballet Paula Castro in Brazil. In the National school she become a professor of Ballet, Methodology, Rehearsal Mistress and in 2000 she is given the responsibility of J’ de Cátedra in Ballet and Pas de Deux.

Ana Julia has been in jury panels for many international student competitions and has been artistic Director of many important Galas. As rehearsal mistress she has been awarded many titles throughout international competitions including in Havana, Brazil, Varna Bulgaria, China and South Africa. She has recently received the Laredo Medal for her devotion in artistic education by the Cultural Ministry of Cuba.
